Why Choose Wood ?

Timber is one of the first materials used by our ancient ancestors, it has played a part in mans development for millenia.

Timber is beautiful, replenishable and versatile, it is also a natural insulator, due to its cellular structure.  It retains heat well, and as such plays a part in reducing our energy demands when heating our homes.

It is exceptionally durable.  Timber constructions that were created thousands of years ago are still evident today.

It takes finishes well, with regular maintainence its appearance can be enhanced and altered, allowing for a complete colour change if desired.  Giving it a large degree of aesthetic flexibility.

It is a renewable sustainable resource, if managed correctly, that stores carbon dioxide, which helps to reduce the greenhouse effect.

The environmental impact of using timber in relation to PVC-u is substantial.  It takes 8 times more energy to create a Pvc-u window than a timber window.

‘The production and disposal of PVC-u windows leads to the release of highly poisonous chemicals which threaten the environment and human health. PVC-u production involves no less than six of the fifteen most hazardous chemicals listed by European governments for priority elimination.’ Green Peace report 2007

The conversion of trees to a useable timber product requires relatively small amounts of energy, it can also be reused and recycled.
